This Girl featuring Kylie Auldist
Taken from the new album 'Soul Messin', the new 45 This Girl features renowned Aussie songstress Kylie Auldist (renowned for her work with The Bamboos, Polyester & Mega Bias) who joins forces with the boys and provides the focus for this mellow, beautiful and incredibly catchy song. The flipside 'Four 'N Twenty' is an instrumental club killer, a deep groove you wont want to climb out of.

When
I first stuck Baked, Broiled & Fried in my player, I thought
for a moment that I’d been sent a vintage Stax/Motown release
by mistake, an effect I imagine the Cookin’ boys have spent
meticulous effort pursuing, with an undeniably warm vinyl quality
present throughout
all
13 tracks here. As for the music itself, the tracks here manage to
navigate a broad range of territory ranging from upbeat JBs-esque
grooves and
sensuous jazz-exotica, whilst deftly avoiding falling into the dreaded
coffee-table-soundtrack
trap. The aforementioned attribute is something that’s partially
down to the mighty organ bass and drum grooves that power this collection...
It’s also equally a result of the deliberately rough edges
kept in the mix, as an inspired live band reworking of Gorillaz’ Feel
Good Inc illustrates. Extremely classy! (evilchris, threedworld.com.au)
Been waiting for a while for a new Cookin' on 3 Burners release, and
they don't dissappoint. Still on the button and tighter than a mosquito's
tweeter. Watch out Quantic Soul Orchestra, the Burners are back! Simon Hodge (Craig Charles Funk & Soul, Radio Scotland)
Tight fatback drums pound away with tasty organ licks, pickin’ guitar
and an overall sound that The Meters would have been proud of, can
Freestyle Records do no wrong … (Pete
Isaac, Jelly Jazz UK)
They’ve got all burners open on this one; going for a really classic
funky 45 groove … Romping rhythm that’s almost Miami funk,
but more open, dipping organ bass and riffing guitar, dancing together
nicely over hard drums. Catchy lyrics in a raspy rough-edged voice … “Settle
the Score is classic-styled funk, a stomp / start groove that comes
down heavy on the beat … (Dustygroove US)
